According to the rules and regulations set out by Hockey Calgary:
With the exception of Intro to Coach (Timbits), Coaches must have their coaching certification by November 15 of the current year. Failure to have a Coach on the bench who has their qualification during games and on the ice during practices may result in the Head Coach being suspended pending a discipline hearing.
It is highly recommended at least one alternate coach on each team complete the required coaching clinics as during the hockey season one coach may not be able to perform his or her duties due to illness, suspension, or other personal reasons.
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) clinics were developed by Hockey Canada and are used in the hockey associations all across Canada. Calgary Hockey Development (CHD) administers these clinics in Calgary, on behalf of Hockey Calgary (HC).

CLINIC LEVELS
INTRO TO COACH
Who Should Attend?
Timbits (Ages 6 & Under)
The NCCP - Intro to Coach is a required course for registered coaches working with Initiation players (5-6 year olds); however, it is not necessarily targeted to the inexperienced coach. This exceptional program shows coaches how to teach hockey's basic skills while keeping the theme of their practices with an emphasis on fun and fundamentals.
No prerequisite required.

Overview
Coaches attend a four hour course, which reviews the basic tools they will need in the areas of leadership, communication, teaching skills, and lesson planning. All this is taught with the special considerations of the youngest athletes in mind. Coaches qualified in the NCCP - Intro to Coach Level receive a manual that provides progressive practice plans. The practice plans are tailor-made for teaching the beginner to ensure their first experience with hockey is fun and positive. This manual eliminates much of the planning necessary to ensure a fun and effective practice and remove much of the demand from coaches who often find themselves with little time to plan their practices.
Qualification Requirements
Qualification is based solely on attendance. 100% attendance is required.
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an NCCP – Intro to Coach verification card at the end of the clinic.
